About

Our Journey as an Autistic Family

We’re Dalisse and Luis, parents of two autistic boys: Adrián (11) and Guillermo (5). But there’s more to our story: Dalisse is also autistic, diagnosed as an adult after recognizing herself in our sons.

This isn’t just a family raising autistic children. We’re an autistic family navigating a neurotypical world together, learning what it means to understand ourselves while supporting our boys.

How everything changed

When Adrián was diagnosed, we did what every parent does, we searched for resources. We found books and guides, but most were written for therapists or offered only general explanations of what autism is. What we couldn’t find were social stories reflecting the realities of day-to-day life, stories with characters other kids could truly relate to, not just inspirational tales or clinical definitions, but honest representation.

Then came Dalisse’s diagnosis. Suddenly, years of feeling different made sense. The sensory overwhelm, the exhaustion from masking, the way social situations drained her, finally, it all had a name. Understanding herself helped her see our boys in ways she never could before.

That’s when we realized: if we couldn’t find the books our family needed, we had to create them.

Why we created Loving Pieces Books

Authentic Representation

We write books with autistic characters based on real-life experiences, our sons’ Adrián and Guillermo, and the families in our community. No inspiration stories. No “overcoming” autism. Just honest, relatable experiences.

For Parents Walking This Path

We’ve been where you are. The sleepless nights wondering if you’re doing enough. The joy when your child reaches a milestone no one thought possible. We write for parents who need both practical tools and emotional support.

Building Understanding

Our books help autistic children see themselves represented authentically, while teaching neurotypical children, teachers, and family members what autism really means from those who live it.

We don't walk this Journey Alone

No family navigates autism in isolation, and we’ve been blessed with a village of support that made all the difference.

Meet Our Family

We’re Dalisse, Luis, Adrián (11), and Guillermo (5), an autistic family navigating life together.

Adrián is curious, detail-oriented, and passionate about history and trains. He’s learning to recognize his strengths and advocate for what he needs. His journey inspired our first series of books.

Guillermo is energetic, determined, and discovering the world in his own unique way. Watching him grow reminds us that every autistic child’s path is different, and that’s exactly as it should be.

Dalisse is an autistic mother and author who discovered her diagnosis as an adult, transforming how she understood herself and connected with our boys.

Luis is the steady support, the research partner, our best friend and partner and the co-creator who helps bring these stories to life.

Every book we write reflects pieces of our real experiences, challenges, and growth, told with honesty and love.

Each book is made with love, with every page representing a piece of their strengths, challenges, and the love that brings it all together.
